Lara Croft Tomb Raider VII : Legend

At last ... the new game has been released, Lara Croft Tomb Raider : Legend. The following text has been copied from the official Tomb Raider website.

EIDOS UNVEILS FIRST DETAILS OF LARA CROFT TOMB RAIDER: LEGEND

World's Best-Known Digital Entertainment Icon Gets Fresh Start From New Team, New Look, New Adventure
San Francisco, CA (April 5, 2005) - Eidos (NASDAQ: EIDSY), one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, today reveals the first details, including title, in-game character model and brand direction, of the next adventure for video gaming's leading lady. Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend is grounded in Lara Croft's tomb raiding roots and built to challenge even the most accomplished serial adventurer.
"In setting the stage for the Tomb Raider franchise moving forward, we took ourselves back to Lara's origins, asked ourselves the hard questions and challenged ourselves to think differently," said Chip Blundell, vice president of brand marketing, Eidos Inc. "Who is Lara Croft? What makes her tick? How is she relevant today? Only by answering these questions could we ensure that gamers get the experience they deserve with the character they love."

Eighteen months ago, Tomb Raider team members at Crystal Dynamics embarked on their own quest to rediscover Lara Croft. During their soul-searching mission, they unearthed past consumer surveys, conducted new research, re-read every game review, listened to lots of passionate pleas and opinions from gamers and re-played through every Tomb Raider product. From this introspection and open-minded search for a fresh perspective, Tomb Raider: Legend was born.

As a result, Eidos is evolving the brand while building on the original values of compelling character and suspense-filled adventure gameplay. Crystal Dynamics has brought together the biggest and most diverse development team in Tomb Raider history and recruited Lara Croft's original creator Toby Gard as the lead character designer.
"Even before the first title launched, Lara Croft had to fight her way into the Tomb Raider franchise, since at the time most game characters were muscle-bound blokes," said Gard. "The Lara Croft character is resilient and totally unstoppable. In Tomb Raider: Legend, we explore these core personality traits and reveal the Lara Croft gamers have been waiting to see."

Tomb Raider: Legend revives the athletic, intelligent and entertaining adventurer who won the hearts and minds of gamers worldwide. Lara comes alive with intricately animated expressions, moves and abilities. An arsenal of modern equipment, such as a magnetic grappling device, binoculars, frag grenades, personal lighting device and communications equipment, allows gamers to experience tomb raiding as never before.

Eidos and Crystal Dynamics shaped Lara's look and movements to be an inherent extension of her skills, motivation and personality. Lara's character model features natural structure, realistic textures, detailed facial features, reactive eyes and fluid motion, all of which make her part of a living environment.

New character animations and controls allow her to move through stunning environments with grace and precision, while an understanding of the game's original appeal reinvigorates the fundamental explore-and-solve adventure experience.

Tomb Raider: Legend is slated for release on the PlayStation(r)2 computer entertainment system, PC and the Xbox(r) video game system from Microsoft. More details will be revealed on www.tombraider.com beginning April 12.

Tomb Raider VI: Angel of Darkness

My opinion .....

I've completed the game for some time ago now. Interested in what I think of it? Then read on ....
First of all, the graphics are greatly improved. But did we expect anything else? The previous games were on the PS1 and now the full power of the PS2 has been used.
In the beginning I had some problems with Lara moving around. I had to get acquinted with the new controls. Having played the previous games so many times, my fingers kept on hitting the wrong buttons every now and then.
The story is great and so are the cut scenes ... far better than the previous games.
It took me some time to get used to handle the analogue controller, or was it the position of the camera that influences the direction in which Lara moves? Whatever, sometimes it gives me the creeps trying to move Lara in a certain direction and seeing her move a different way. Why not let us use the old direction buttons as well? What do you think of it? Am I the only one having this frustration?

Overall I'm not disappointed with the Angel of Darkness. I still like playing the games and if I have a saying in it .... let Eidos continu developing new games! At least one person will buy a copy of it, and that's me :-)

The story so far...

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness is a three part adventure that begins in cosmopolitan Paris, where Lara Croft arrives only to be framed for a crime she apparently did not commit, and begins a hasty retreat through the dark Parisian underbelly relentlessly pursued by the authorities while attempting to piece together a puzzle surrounding the conspirators who seek her doom, vehemently led by the unscrupulous Eckhardt.

Weaponless and without a penny to her name, Lara must negotiate her way through the initial segment of her adventure combining a desperate acquisition of apparel and hardware with a search for five 14th century paintings penned by the famous "Obscura Painter."

The architectural majesty of the famous Musée du Louvre in Paris will play host to a spectacular robbery in Part II when Lara Croft actions the theft of the 14th century artworks to further her adventures, drawn deep into the poignant bowels of the catacombs rooted beneath the city where her traditional Tomb Raider skills will be resurrected by a series of mind-bending puzzles and action-packed, death-defying leaps and jumps.

Core Design's second playable character, Kurtis Trent, joins forces with Lara Croft and they both advance their challenge for beneficial resolution with the recovery of the five antique paintings. The surgical-steeled schematics of high-tech industry is sown into the game-play broth as both Lara Croft and Kurtis Trent travel to Prague, Eastern Europe, for the third and final part of their adventure and descend into the monstrous Strahov Complex for a final showdown with Eckhardt. Here the first episodic adventure of Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Angel Of Darkness will conclude.

The Cradle of Life - TR2 movie

I've seen this latest movie in July 2003, and I really loved it. It's a far better than the first one, and I'm must say that our Dutch director Jan de Bont has done a great job. If there's going to be a third movie, please have Jan as director again!
This time around, archaeologist and explorer extraordinaire journeys to a temple, sunken underwater, that leads to a sphere that contains the mythical Pandora's Box, only to have it stolen from her by Chen Lo, the leader of a Chinese crime syndicate, who's in league with a bad guy named Reiss who wants to use the Box as a doomsday weapon...

Jill de Jong

After Lara Weller, Rhonda Mitra, Vaness Demouy, Lucy Clarkson and Nell McAndrew we have a new model for Lara Croft .... the Dutch Jill de Jong.

The Dutch model has been hired to promote the latest Lara Croft game and has been chosen from over 100 models. Jill lives in Hoogeveen and is born february 17, 1982.

Tomb Raider Movie

I think the real fan has seen the first movie, for it is released some time ago now. And if you didn't see it, you can buy it on video and DVD. It was the first movie I saw starring Angelina Jolie, and that wasn't bad. Although the second movie, The cradle of Life, is much better, for the real fan it's definitely worth seeing.

Tomb Raider Chronicles

As a great Tomb Raider fan I started playing the latest game, Chronicles, as soon as I got my hands on it. And I must say, I'm a little bit disappointed. Just a little bit of course, but as I feared, there haven't been any (major) changes to the game and the graphical preformance on the Playstation hasn't improved at all.
On the web you'll find lots of links to information about the new Tomb Raider Game. Yes, most of the information has been 'borrowed' from other sites, so I'm not going to tell you things you'll probably already know. Ok, just a few words then .....

The story begins just a few days after the ending of The Last Revelation. Lara's body has never been found, but people assume she's dead. After the burial ceremony of Lara three characters, Jean Yves, Winston and priest Dunstan in their own way think back about Lara.

The game consists of four new adventures and bring Lara back in time to Rome, a small Irish island, a hightech building and a Russian sub. Each adventure requires its specific game characteristics.

In Ireland Lara has to find her way without any weapons, whereas the Russian sub can be compared to an episode of the X-files. Rome is said to be the classical Tomb Raider action, and in the high tech building the keyword is stealth.
So the new game, Tomb raider Chronicles, should please all TR-gamers!

Tomb Raider IV - The Last Revelation

The last game I've played is, off course, The Last Revelation. And I must say, it looks good, really good and got me 'connected' to my PSX-console for quit some (late) hours. I must admit I'm glad there are walkthroughs on the web. Without them, I think the game would drive me crazy more than once. Looking for a good walkthrough?

International Croft times (a Dutch one!)
On the web you'll find lots of information about this new hit from Eidos and Core Design. The game returns to the magical formula of the original game and has a lot of improvements compared to the previous games. The Last Revelation is completely situated in Egypt and ..... well, just play the game and see for yourself.
Tip: Personally I don't like the levels that are playing in the dark all the time. A tip I read in one of the walkthroughs is to save the game at a certain point, explore the location by using as many flames as you like (and the most powerful weapons you are carrying), remember everything well and after you know what to do, just reload the game and do it all over again (but much faster this time, and using far less flames and ammo).

As Playstation gamer, I regret that the graphical features of the PC version are superior to the PSX version. I hope this will be better when the next generation Playstation arrives (coming soon to Europe) .....

On the web you'll find lots of information about TR IV. For example, take a visit at The International Croft times (Dutch version), at Playstation Paradise and at GameSpot. You can always try the better search engines and you'll be surprised by the number of hits ...

Who is Lara Croft?

Born in England at 14th February 1967, raised as an aristocrat, the daughter of Lord Henshingly Croft, Lara was a high-society debutante when, at the age of 21, on the return from a skiing trip her plane crashes in the Himalayas.

As the only survivor, Lara had to learn to survive in the wilderness, away from her sheltered upbringing. After two weeks she arrives at the village of Tokakeriby, she was safe but her live had changed forever.

She soon finds out that the upper-class British society is a bit to claustrophobic for her, and starts her voyages of discovery and exploration around the world. She is soon disowned by her family and turns to writing as a mean to fund her trips.

At 29, having published several books and journals detailing her discoveries of several important remains of ancient civilizations, she's contacted by Jacqueline Natla to recover the Atlantean Scion...

The games so far .....

TO BE TRANSLATED SOON!!

Het volgende spel, deel 4, kreeg de titel Tomb Raider IV - The Last Revelation mee.

The Nude Raider

Lots of people on the web seem to be looking for The Nude Raider, pictures of a nude Lara Croft. Well, I've got to disappoint you. On this site you won't find any of these pictures, please don't ask me for these pictures for I don't have them, and please don't send them to me for I don't want them!
And for all I know, there isn't even a patch a something like that for the Playstation. So the PSX-gamers have to do without a nude Lara jumping over the screen ..... but who cares.

Lara Croft Picture Page

As a real fan I've collected some beautiful pictures of Lara Croft. In addition to the pictures on this page you'll find lots more on my Tomb Raider Picture Page.
